Hesed House

August 18, 2022 @ 5:00 pm - 9:00 pm

God is Good!

Effective this month Ginger Creek is back at Hesed House serving on a limited sign up volunteer basis.  The information below will provide you with probably too much detail.  In order for us to meet the requirements, I have set up a Goggle Doc for you to sign up.

Volunteers coming to Hesed will need to update their volunteer profiles with the date of their final vaccination before coming to Hesed. The links below are for updating an existing volunteer profile, or creating a new one!

Volunteer Profile Update Link – Note: this will likely involve resetting/creating a password.

If volunteers are new to Hesed or didn’t have a profile from before, the new volunteer application link is below:

Volunteer Application – Hesed House

Family Shelter Volunteer dinner shift information: The volunteer shift is from 4-8 p.m. for up to 4 total volunteers in the kitchen/program area. The Family Shelter will return to its 6 p.m. serving time. The volunteers can actually come as early as needed to have the meal hot and ready for 6 p.m.! The 6 p.m. serving time works best for the Family Shelter, because it allows the children an extra hour to sleep.  Up to four fully vaccinated, adult volunteers age 18 or over, can serve in the family shelter kitchen/program area. If the group is grilling outside, an additional 1-3 vaccinated volunteers can do the grilling on the Family Shelter grill outside! After the meal is served, the volunteers are asked to leave the kitchen a little cleaner than they found it!

PADS OES serving time change, and hours to note: We are moving our serving time back to 7 p.m. for groups coming on-site to cook.

PADS OES Volunteer dinner shift information: The volunteer shift is from 5-9 p.m., for anywhere from 4 to 13 volunteers. The PADS OES kitchen volunteers can actually come as early as needed to have the meal hot and ready to be delivered to programs at 6:45 p.m. so it can be served at 7 p.m. After the meal is delivered, volunteers are asked to clean the kitchen and leave it a little cleaner than they found it! Up to 6 vaccinated volunteers can serve in the kitchen at one time. An additional 1-3 volunteers can tend the outdoor grill if your group is grilling for the night. An additional 4 volunteers can serve in program to serve the meal and assist staff with the store, mail, etc.

PADS OES Volunteer Kitchen hours for breakfasts: 4:30-7:30 a.m. The kitchen volunteers can actually come as early as needed to have the meal hot and ready to be delivered to program at 6:45 a.m. so it can be served at 7 a.m. This is later than our traditional serving time and has been a change since COVID, so if the previous times work better for a breakfast group to cook and serve earlier, that is completely fine as well! There are always some guests up very early, and the volunteers can leave the food on the warmers/serving line if they have to leave around 7 as in the pre-covid days. After the meal is served, volunteers are asked to clean the kitchen and leave it a little cleaner than they found it, if they have time!

Mask up! Volunteers are required to wear masks at Hesed. Volunteers can wear their own masks. Hesed can also supply cloth or surgical masks.

Routine and parameters: All volunteers will do a temperature check, sign-in and confirm full vaccination, in the kitchen before starting their shift.

MORE FAQS

Do Phase 2 volunteers have to be fully vaccinated?

Yes. Fully vaccinated means at least two weeks after the final dose of the vaccination.

Will there be temperature checks onsite?

Yes, there will be a temperature checking station in the kitchen as volunteers sign in and confirm their vaccination.

Is it overkill to have vaccinated, fully masked and socially distanced volunteers serving in the kitchen and in program for Phase 2?

No, because we want to set the bar high. At the end of the day, we serve people in a congregate setting who face far more health challenges than the general population, so we would rather be overly cautious for our congregate setting of guests who are more immuno-compromised than the general public, as well as our volunteers, staff and overall community. COVID has caused such devastation to everyone and especially to at-risk communities, so we move forward in hope while taking every precaution that we can because we all deserve that for each other.
