Using the Study Guide

This Study Guide is a tool that helps you unpack the Experiencing God Study. But it can be more than that. We’re giving you a document full of possibilities. We aim to provide you with more than enough content to create life-changing reflections. So, feel free to select only those parts or questions that you think will best help your study of Jesus’s words as a group.

The main body of the Study Guide provides an overview of the video teaching, along with questions for reflection or discussion. Many of the questions are open-ended to encourage you to wrestle with what the Bible is saying to us today. Additionally, each session has various sections:

Scripture Referenced:

We often rush into interpreting a Bible passage without hearing it. In this section, we urge you to read the text slowly before you begin the analysis. Drink in the words and images for yourself. Then, the video teaching will make more sense. You can compare it with your impressions of the text. Keep your eyes and ears open while watching the video so you can answer the “things to look for” questions.

Video Teaching Notes:

This section offers an in-depth look at the meaning of the text. It provides an opportunity for your group to share their thoughts about a statement or idea that was mentioned.

Review:

This section offers an opportunity to put what you’ve learned into practice. Many of us are very good at internal responses in which we treasure the lessons we just learned, but how do we practice them with others? How do we practice talking with a neighbor or helping someone in need? Keep moving toward the more challenging responses.
